This was the first community event I've held and hosted for a community and residents. There are great people in your neighborhood. Find them. Sometimes, they're hiding behind the stresses and want to emerge. Suppressing their voice. Everyone has something to say and give to society whether it's time volunteering, mentoring or sharing their story. Believe me when I tell you that if not all, at least one person will always be inspired. I know. It happened to me. Thank you #Mom and #AliciaRasin. “The only thing you need is the strength and courage to recognize that you have been chosen for the awesome task of implementing change.” ~ IyanaVanzant
I wanted to give my neighbors the platform they deserve to share their voice and meet their neighbors. Change can happen in small places with people with big hearts. I am so grateful that God used me for this action. I was chosen to implement change. I believe that. As I shared with my neighbors during my introduction, I am a person who enjoys exposing the greatness in others.
We are going to continue our neighbor to neighbor dialogues and initiatives to restore our community and we will start with our youth and seniors. At the end of the event, we gifted school supplies to a teen and 1st grader who were present and patient with all the adults who presented their views. My son John Chillum gave an impeccable impromptu speech for young adult males. I only wish that more were present to experience it and be empowered.
Thank you neighbors of Highland Park Historic District and special thanks to our 6th District Councwilwoman #EllenRobertson for visiting with us and bringing remarks. You are greatly appreciated. Rev. Woodson, of Citizen's Against Crime, thank you for your powerful prayers and bringing remarks. Everyone had an opportunity to speak and share their wisdom. So epic! Never despise small beginnings. We will engage again next year.
